Awards

Dan Wesley has picked up two trophies at the UK Country Radio Awards in recent years.

 2007 UK Country Radio Awards

Dan's recent single "Some Things I Like" has been named Song of The Year at the UK Country Radio Awards at the superb annual event at the Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green, Camberley in Surrey (home of World Darts). The show which took place on Sunday 3rd Feb 2008, is the main event in the British Country Music calendar and is Dan's second win after he picked up Single of the Year for the song "From A Jack To A Joker" at last year's event.

"Some Things I Like" was also nominated for Single of the Year but that trophy went to legend of the British scene Dave Sheriff for his song "Where Have All The Good Times Gone". Other winners included Dane Stevens, Lucie Diamond, Jim Duncan, Capricorn and Marie Crichton. The full list of winners and nominees is on the right

The event was tinged with great sadness as the death was announced of Sue McCarthy. Sue was the editor of Southern Country Magazine (the event's sponsors) and the main driving force behind the organisation of the awards for the past seventeen years. She died on Monday Jan 28th, just six days before the show, after a struggle with cancer. The show went ahead and included many tributes to Sue.

 2006 UK Country Radio Awards

Dan's recent self-penned single "From A Jack To A Joker" has been named Single of the Year at the prestigious UK Country Radio Awards. The show took place February 4th at the Lakeside Country Club, Camberley, Surrey (home of World Darts) and featured some of the cream of British Country Music. Dan's single beat off competition from three others in the category from Bryan Chalker, Dave Sheriff and Kevin Stewart.

The song which is the title track from Dan's album to be released in the new year, is a new take on the classic Ned Miller hit from the Sixties "From A Jack To A King". In that song a young guy fancies his chances with a beautiful woman who might normally be way out of his league, but as the song say's he plays an ace and wins a queen. In the new song from Dan Wesley the story starts off in a similar way. A no-hoper once again thinks he might be in with a chance with "the year's most gorgeous girl". He plucks up the courage to ask her out, but she tells him in no uncertain terms where to go. And he goes "from a geek to a broke-down fool".
