Dan's love of gospel music, and southern gospel in particular, has led him to the point recently where he wants to share this with others. The release recently of "Changed", Dan's first gospel album has begun to open doors in churches and Christian centres alike. And the self-penned "Bring What You Have" taken from this CD reached No.1 in the European NCM Country Gospel Chart and has led to Dan winning a Radio Mike Award at the New Christian Music Awards Weekend (see pictures below).

"My first introduction to what I now know as Southern Gospel Music came as a child listening to my dad's extensive Elvis Presley record collection. We had all four of Elvis' gospel albums, and they were without question my favourite of all the LPs we had. Well it doesn't get any better than listening to the King singing about the King" says Dan. Elvis was joined on these records, as always, by the Jordanaires and later the Stamps and from that moment Dan's love of gospel quartet harmonies was born. Further gospel LPs by the Statler Brothers and Vance Greek became equal favourites in Dan's early years.

You will hear on the CD the essential ingredient of those four part harmonies. "My absolute favourite job would be to sing in a southern gospel quartet. To sing those harmonies with three other talented singers would be the ultimate dream. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of those kind of people round here so I have to record all the parts myself, though I am very grateful for the assistance of fellow Twangmeister artiste David Broadley on this album who came in and sang some of the bass parts. He can get down and reach notes that I can't. Well, not unless I've got a soar throat"

Quality southern gospel artistes are extremely few and far between here in the UK, despite there clearly being a large audience who love this music. Witness the recent packed houses in Belfast, Glasgow and London for the Gaither Music tour.

CD Review
DAN WESLEY
CHANGED
TWANGMEISER RECORDS
10 out of 10, highly recommended, this young clear-voiced, modern country-gospel Brit has a mellow-rich vocal sound that captures attention immediately. This Gaitheresque repertoire is a fresh departure in the UK that works exceedingly well. It was recorded in Grimsby with John Permenter (fiddle) and the outstanding David Broadley on backing vocals. Dan himself is at the helm and all other instruments. As a solo-act of considerable promise, Dan communicates very well. Delivered with passion, his gentle voice has a simple charm that warms one to the story-telling sentiments being expressed. All his song-lyrics are engaging and catchy and work well, married to his competent backing. Indeed, there’s many radio pick-outs here performed in a chart-country-style. The quality-sounding sessions blend into an edifying mood-inspiring production of top credit, moments to treasure. Brilliant!
